Hi Mackenzie! Tell us about yourself?
My name is Mackenzie. I work in corporate America by day, and I am a fashion blogger by night in Boston. I started my blog, Six Feet In Heels, as a creative outlet and separation from my normal day-to-day. I have always had a minor (ok MAJOR) obsession with all things fashion, so I decided to harness that to share my outlook with the world.
What drew you to the Graciela Rivas Leah Grey Dress?
I loved that all of Graciela’s designs were very simple and minimal. The Leah Grey Dress I especially liked because it is something that I would have in my own closet. I love pieces that can be utilized in different outfits through styling, such as layering, and this dress provides a great base to do just that!
What inspires your fashion tastes?
I have been interested in fashion since I was very young, thanks in large part to my fashionable mom and grandmother. In my life, I have had many different things inspire my my style. For me, I think a big part of your personal style is your surroundings and what you find yourself doing. Currently I work in a job that requires me to dress professionally almost every day. It is because of this that I have spent a lot of time focusing on how I can take a 9-5 wardrobe and make it fashionable. When it comes to drawing on inspiration for this, I look at what people around me are wearing. I love walking around the city and seeing how other people are dressed, then taking what I see and trying to put my own wardrobe to work in either recreating it, or putting my own twist on it.
When it comes to fashion that I share on my blog, I draw inspiration from different places. I spend a lot of time on Instagram, and have some fashion bloggers who I follow religiously like Damsel In Dior, Could I Have That, WhoWhatWear. They are definitely a big source of inspiration, especially when it comes to new trends and styles. They are the ones who go to all of the fashion weeks, so by following them, I see new trends as they are happening.
How did you add your own style to your Graciela Rivas dress?
As I mentioned before, I love pieces that can be worn in a multitude of ways. When you build a wardrobe with pieces like this, it makes it easier to seem like you have more clothes than you actually do. One of the ways I like to put this into practice is through layering, so I layered a white sleeveless button-down shirt underneath the dress as a way to make it more appropriate for spring. If I were to wear this dress during the fall/winter, I would’ve worn a black bodysuit, or turtleneck underneath. If, I were to wear it for summer, I likely would’ve worn it on its own with a pair of really high heels, since the full skirt does a great job of showing off your legs!
At 9am each day you are…
During the week I am at work going through emails, and likely eating oatmeal for breakfast…exciting stuff, I know! On a typical weekend, I am walking to the nearest coffee shop. I don’t actually drink coffee, as I try to avoid caffeine, so I am strictly on the lookout for breakfast.
And in the evening you are…
There is no such thing as a typical evening for me because I am always busy going to different events. These can be blogging events where I am trying to expand my network, or just heading to the bar with coworkers for a much needed mid-week cocktail. There is a Facebook group called Boston Bloggers thats throws seasonal networking events for all bloggers in the area. These are always great because you get to hang out with other people that share your interests and are working on things similar to you. It is always great to get the creative juices flowing, and to meet new people as well! Whenever I don’t have events going on, you will find me at home on my computer working on all things blog related.
On Sundays we’ll find you wearing…
On the weekends I like to keep things casual. When it is cold I’ll be in jeans and an oversized sweater with booties, or fashionable sneakers. During the warmer months, I will usually be in an easy sundress with a bathing suit underneath (I live right by Southie’s beach). At all times of the year, I will likely also be wearing a hat…no one feels like doing their hair on Sundays right??
What is your favorite fashion trend?
This is too hard to narrow down to just one! In recent years my favorites have definitely been pajama dressing and neck scarves.
What excites you about Nineteenth Amendment?
I love that through Nineteenth Amendment I am able to be introduced to new, up and coming designers! I love finding out about new brands that maybe not everyone has heard of yet, and Nineteenth Amendment allows me to find them!
