Last weekend, we had the chance to catch up with Carla Fernández from Oda a la Moda, who took the time to try on looks from Nineteenth Amendment designer, Natalie Rae.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I am Carla, a 22 year old biology student with a passion for fashion, food, and art. Always making sure I am versatile enough to go through all three on the same day. Besides being a pre-med student, I also take time to paint, just as an easy way to calm and relax.

What does fashion mean to you?

Fashion to me is the most common form of art there is. Everyday people create art through their outfits without them even noticing it. Even if the person decides to wear the same exact outfit everyday, he/she is still creating something that no one else has done before.

What spoke to you about the garment you chose to wear?

What really spoke to me about the Natalie Rae Jade Dress I chose to wear was the simple details and color! For me, the way you dress must be a reflection of what you want people to see in you – bright and easy-going.

When did you develop a love of fashion?

My love for fashion started developing since I was a little girl. My mom has an exquisite taste for clothes so I always saw her as an inspiration.

How would you describe your style?

I would describe my style as a clash between simplicity alongside classy looks, and little dose of edginess.

How do you incorporate your own personal style with what you do?

Whether I am painting, cooking or simply choosing an outfit I try to incorporate my own personal style by adding soft colors, a mix of different flavors on a plain but strong base or simply clean cuts to accentuate certain details.

Your biggest fashion faux pas, or a regrettable purchase / style phase:

My biggest regrettable purchase has been anything expensive I have bought that was trending at the moment and then it was long gone.

What is your go-to power outfit?

My go-to-power outfit has to be a button down silk blouse with a white palazzo pant and a pair of high heel sandals.

What’s the one garment you’ll never give away?

The one garment I’ll never give away would have to be a vintage sequin blazer my mom gave me.

What trend do you hope never goes out of style?

A trend I hope never goes out of style is wearing a pair of sneakers with anything. Sneakers are just too comfy.

What excites you about Nineteenth Amendment?

What excites me the most about Nineteenth Amendment is having the opportunity to work with designers all over the world, not necessarily just the ones close to home. Nineteenth Amendment serves as a direct connection to fashion all over the globe.
