Hi Allie! Tell us a bit more about yourself and Denim Distractions!
I’m a fashion blogger! You can find me at @DenimDistractions or Denim Distractions. This pretty much means that I get to share my take on fashion and how I incorporate it into my daily life with my community of followers. I’ve always gotten inspiration from fashion bloggers on Instagram, so I wanted to create a place where I could share my own personal style with others and basically be the eyes and ears for those who aren’t able to attend a fashion show or event.
What spoke to you about the garment you chose to wear?
I noticed this Meghan Hughes piece immediately! I loved the different textures and bright colors that she used. My favorite part has to be the 80’s vibe I get from it – I have been all about the 80’s trend lately.
When did you develop a love of fashion?
My earliest memory of fashion has to be at about three or four years old, watching my mom getting ready for work. I remember her picking out a look, then ironing her clothes and getting all dressed and ready. She always looked so chic. That’s probably where my love of fashion initially developed. The funny thing is, all the oversized blazers with shoulder pads that she used to wear, I now get to incorporate into my own wardrobe. Trends repeat! It’s come full circle, I love it!
In one word, how would you describe your style?
Mine! It’s way too difficult to try to box myself into one type of style. I like to dabble in a little bit of everything and it’s really just what I’m feeling on a particular day.
How do you incorporate your own personal style with what you do?
My job is about personal style. To me, posting an Instagram picture of my look for the day or writing a blog post about my favorite trends of the moment are all ways to express myself and by expressing myself, I hope to inspire others to be confident in expressing themselves too.
Describe your morning routine. At 9 am each day, you are….
9 am during the week, I’m answering emails drinking my almond latte with my puppy Bailey trying to get me to play with her. I’d like to say on the weekends I take a break from the emails and sleep in, but it’s pretty much the same routine on Saturdays and Sundays too!
Describe your evenings.
My evenings during the week either consist of editing pictures from a shoot, working on a blog post, attending an event, or watching reality TV with my girl Bailey – my guilty pleasure! On the weekends, you’ll probably find me out to dinner or binging a Netflix show.
On Sunday, we’ll find you wearing:
Anything comfy! I’m all about the hoodie and legging combo on Sundays.
What is your biggest fashion faux pas or regrettable style phase?
My biggest fashion faux pas has to be low rise jeans. That is one trend that I can honestly say I hope never circles back around!
What is your go-to power outfit?
My go-to power outfit has to be a good pair of high-waisted denim jeans, and a really sick leather jacket with some booties. That’s how I styled the Meghan Hughes piece which is perfect with high-waisted jeans! To me, those are staples that can be mixed and matched with pretty much any shirt or shoe and it’s what I feel most myself in.
What trend do you hope never goes out of style?
Definitely high waisted jeans! They’re so flattering and comfortable.
Definitely unsurprising given your blog name ;). What’s the one garment you’ll never give away?
Anything vintage that my mom used to wear and handed down to me. I want to hand them down to my future daughter one day. Being able to incorporate the same pieces into three generations of style would be so incredible!
What does fashion mean to you?
Fashion is a form of expression and showcasing your creativity. Getting dressed is something you have to do every morning – so why not have fun with it? That’s why I loved the Meghan Hughes ‘Wild Child’ collection – it’s so fun!
What excites you about Nineteenth Amendment?
What most excites me about Nineteenth Amendment is the way it gives opportunity to independent designers from all over the world to live their passion and create pieces that can reach people from everywhere. And the fact that it is reducing waste because it’s made especially for the person who is ordering it is actually a game changer. It makes me so excited to think about fashion heading in this direction.
Inspired by whimsical and 80’s pop-culture characters like Pippi Longstocking, Boston-based Designer Meghan Hughes’ collections features fun, feminine, and easy-to-wear pieces in popping palettes and mixed materials. Shop all of Meghan Hughes’ designs here.
