Meet our Makers: Better Team USA, Clifton, NJ

Nineteenth Amendment’s Manufacturing Promise: We believe that you should know why your clothing is made, how it is made, where it is made, and who makes it.  Our mission is to create a better place for fashion and part of that mission is to champion ethical manufacturing. All garments purchased on are made on demand by one of our partner US-based manufactures. Each purchase directly helps these manufacturers grow their businesses and support their workers. Our quality assurance team personally visits and inspects each of our partner manufacturers and we get to know the people who make your clothing. Here are their stories:

Better Team USA
Clifton, New Jersey

Better Team USA is one of our largest garment production facilities, located 30 minutes outside of Manhattan in Clifton, New Jersey. The 17,000 square foot, $11 million dollar state-of-the-art facility opened in 2014 and is run by Horatio Di Battista and his family. After owning and operating high end factories across Italy and Asia, Horatio decided to open up a facility in the US to address the growing need in the “Made in the USA” market.

Di Battista grew up in a family of Italian tailors and was trained by his father Augy, a master couture tailor who worked for Christian Dior and Halston before opening his own factory on 39th Street, New York City in 1960’s. Horatio spent his early working years in his father’s factory learning the skills of draping, pattern making, sewing, and factory management. There, he worked with famed designers such as Bill Blass, Anne Klein, Pauline Trigere, Carolina Herrera, and Arnold Scassi.

For Horatio, it’s the small values that add up to big differences. Following in his father’s footsteps, Horatio’s  New Jersey facility has the look of a European Atelier with all workers wearing spotless white coats while working with new equipment.Horatio goes out of his way to ensure his workers are happy such as operating a van service for workers and the factory strives to be energy efficient by outfitting the new facility with energy efficient lighting.

Nineteenth Amendment designers are welcome to visit the Better Team facility, use their fabric sourcing library, and meet the workers who make their clothing.Nineteenth Amendment is proud to partner with Better Team USA and help them grow their business.
