How and why did you start designing?

I started designing at a young age when I noticed there really isn’t much FUN fashion out there.  I thought to myself, I want to design funky fashions and thought “Why do prints have to match?!” Then…I was hooked, and asked for a sewing machine for my ninth birthday.

What is your fashion philosophy?

My main philosophy as a designer is to design garments that are fun, funky, and free-spirited for the fashion forward women. Also, when the inside looks as good as the outside, that’s the perfection I aim for with quality

How has your design changed over time?

When I was in fashion design school in Chicago, I took a few specialty classes such as Corsetry, Tailoring, and Shingo Sato Transformational Reconstruction. My designs have become more crisp with tailoring, better structured with corsetry, and my favorite EVER Shingo Sato. Before taking classes I would design fun garments but with this new knowledge and experience I can make my seams more intricate while fitting well against the body. I also got braver and started using different fabrics and prints.

What inspired your latest collection?

I was inspired by Austin Powers and his fun and funky style! A little 60’s and 70’s twist with today. I’m trying to make my clothes more ready-to-wear vs. ‘WOAH, RUNWAY!’ So I’m very proud of how it turned out. You’ll feel GROOVY and FAB in Bianca Zidik designs!

Why is this collection called, “The Daydream”?

I called this collection ‘The Daydream’ because while I work at my full time job I can’t help but think, “what if?”  My dream is to see confident women wearing Bianca Zidik and to encourage other women to follow their dreams too. No one should think “what if.”

What is your biggest hurdle building a brand today?

The biggest hurdle for me is finding marketing resources I need to help me grow as a designer.

I also have a full-time job and an alterations business to fund my clothing line, so finding more time is my biggest hurdle! I really can’t wait to drop alterations when my line grows! My heart is fully committed towards my clothing line and always has been.

What do you think about fashion today?

Life is really too short to wear boring clothes. Turn some heads, give and get compliments! I believe there are NO rules in fashion today. If you want to wear that cheetah faux fur vest with polkadot pants, then you do it! Especially at ANY age. When I’m 80…90… I’m still going to dress how I do today.

Where do you go and what do you do for inspiration?

I really enjoy going to art museums and walking through cities looking at architecture taking in shapes and curves. When I lived in Chicago I loved riding my pink bike down Wells Street on Sundays and I’d just enjoy looking at buildings and stop at different shops to take pictures of metal fences and doors.

I also LOVE fabric shopping because it gets me inspired. When I get fabric I usually end up finding something I wasn’t looking for but I just know exactly what that fabric was meant to become.

Any tips and tricks of the trade?

Have patience.
